Martinsville Minority Business Consortium (Martinsville MBC) is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) responsible for advancing its mission and overseeing the organization’s operations and programs. The Executive Director position is remote, however, the position is based in Martinsville, Virginia. Presence in the Martinsville and surrounding area is required. The official worksite of the Executive Director will be their home office located in Martinsvillle orthe surrounding area.
Position Overview
The Martinsville MBC Executive Director will be responsible for providing overall management of operations, finances, membership development, member services, professional education, communication, and advocacy development. The organization is seeking an enthusiastic individual who can support a collaborative, cohesive, and mission-driven work environment while understanding the importance of operating like a business. The Executive Director position requires significant leadership skills in planning strategically and collaboratively.
In addition, the position requires strong management practices, attentive customer service, and knowledge of nonprofit best practices. The Executive Director must be an excellent public speaker, listener, and writer to communicate the value of entrepreneurs and a diverse community. The Executive Director reports directly to the organization's Board of Directors.
Roles & Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
â–ª Provide effective leadership and management to ensure that the operations of the organization are efficient and sustainable.
â–ª Use strategic planning to promote and ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, consistent quality of operations, and effective communications adhering to recommended timelines and using resources effectively to achieve strategic goals.
â–ª Seek and encourage board and staff engagement with the organization’s strategic vision to support operational excellence.
â–ª Regularly evaluate program and service components to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board,members, funders, and other stakeholders.
â–ª Hire staff and consultants and conduct performance evaluations.
â–ª Foster an organizational culture that attracts, engages, motivates, and retains a diverse team of committed staff, volunteers and members.
Board Governance

â–ª Lead Martinsville MBC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
â–ª Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
â–ª Attend board meetings and report on program activity.
â–ª Suggest any new policies and procedures deemed necessary and present them to the Board for review and approval.
Financial Performance and Viability
â–ª Manage resource allocation and development to ensure the financial health/management of the organization.
â–ª Write annual grants and seek new grant and funding sources from private foundations and government agencies.
â–ª Develop and implement funding strategies to secure individual and corporate donations.
â–ª Identify new value-added services/products and sources of revenue.
â–ª Ensure a robust corporate sponsorship program to support the mission of Martinsville MBC while developing innovative programming to drive value for members.
â–ª Create an annual budget and work with the Board Treasurer/Executive Committee of the Board to manage it.
â–ª Complete required reports in a timely manner and share with the Board.
Member and Organization Outreach/Marketing
â–ª Foster opportunities for fellowship among members, professional development, and advancement of entrepreneurs.
â–ª Actively target and pursue growth through new memberships and relationships with annual partners, potential sponsors, and allied organizations.
â–ª Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance MBC’s.
â–ª Help enhance MBC’s public image/presence and grow its membership by being active and visible in the community.
â–ª Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson to constituents, the media, and the general public.
â–ª Build collaborative relationships with allied professionals in the building industry to advance organizational goals and objectives.
â–ª Use various vehicles (e-newsletter, email distribution lists) to communicate with members, public officials, and community partners.
Event Planning and Coordination
â–ª Plan, coordinate, and carry out meeting/event activities to foster fellowship and professional development for membership approved by the Board of Directors.
â–ª Provide staff support for all events.
â–ª Manage the calendar of events for the organization.
â–ª Coordinate and maximize continuing education opportunities for members.
â–ª Serve as ex-officio member of all committees.
â–ª Offer leadership, encouragement, and facilitation for all committee activities.
â–ª Recommend to the Board of Directors the role of various committees.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
â–ª A bachelor’s degree.
â–ª Minimum of five years of previous management-level experience working in association management, nonprofit, and/or chapter relations.
â–ª Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, efficiently, and professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization: board members, volunteers, partner organizations, stakeholders, and staff.
â–ª Solid organizational and administrative abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and project management.
â–ª Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
â–ª Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Word, and related software programs.
â–ª Proficiency in both QuickBooks and WordPress.
â–ª Ability to oversee the strategic use of the organization’s digital tools including social media and applications.
â–ª Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the membership, volunteer, and staff environments.
â–ª Strong written, organizational, communication, public relations, diplomatic, and customer service abilities.
â–ª Strong public speaking ability.
The Executive Director position is based in Martinsville, VA. The Executive Director will work from a home office; however, local presence is required. Some evening and weekend hours, and travel are required
